AFGELAST – Mai Khoi & The Dissidents
AFGELAST vanwege de nieuwe Corona maatregelen die gelden vanaf 26november.
In honour of Human Rights day 2020, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands cordially invites you to the viewing of Mai Khoi & The Dissidents
Director Joe Piscatella follows Mai Khoi, one of Vietnam’s biggest pop stars, during the recording of her album Dissent which, she says, “I know will make the government angry”. Ma Khoi became hugely popular with her breakthrough-song ‘Vietnam’, about the beauty of her home country. However, more and more, Mai Khoi uses her position of stardom to speak out about a range of social issues such as woman’s right’s, LGTB rights and freedom of speech. Soon, the police start raiding her concerts, and the government bans her from performing. During the recording, she feels she may not be safe in Vietnam anymore.
